1. Catechetical Sunday
Our parish celebrated Catechetical Sunday on September 19th. James achan thanked the CCD ministry for their services. Special thanks to all the teachers who have been teaching for 20+,15+,10+ and 5+ years.
2. Parish Council 2022-23
It is time to form the Parish Council for 2022-23. The nomination form is available in the Trustee's office. Those who are interested, please collect the form and submit it to James achan by 1 pm on October 17th.
The Allen/Plano, South Garland, Sunnyvale and Murphy wards will have 2 representatives (a male and a female) from each ward. The other wards, North Mesquite, South Mesquite, North Garland, Rowlett and Arlington will have one representative from each ward.
3. Vincent De Paul Feast Day - 2nd collection on September 26th
Sunday, September 26th is St. Vincent De Paul's Feast day. Usually we celebrate this feast day at our church with prayers and a second collection after both Holy Qurbanas. Due to COVID restrictions, if you are not able to attend either Qurbana, please donate via the options detailed below.
The SVDP Feast day is one of the two fundraising opportunities for the society, the second being an annual Christmas raffle. SVDP members are meeting regularly via Zoom meetings and processing applications now. So far this year, the SVDP have helped 82 families with a total of $67,375. This would not have been possible without the support of the parishioners.
To keep up with the increased requests from needy families all across Kerala, your help is greatly appreciated. Please make a donation to the SVDP society by using any of the options listed below:
- Drop your check during the second collection at the 7:00 am, 8:30 am or 10:30 am Holy Qurbanas on Sunday September 26th.
- Mail your checks payable to St. Vincent De Paul society to our church address: St. Vincent De Paul Society, St. Thomas Catholic Church, 4922 Rosehill Road, Garland, TX 75043.
- Drop your check or cash in the St. Vincent De Paul society collection boxes located inside our church, in the parish hall or to any of the society members.
4. Dei-Verbum (Diocesan Bible Quiz)
We will be having a Diocesan Bible Quiz (Dei-Verbum) this year. All CCD students from 4th Grade and up are expected to participate.

Adult Bible Quiz
The adult group can choose either the English or Malayalam version of the quiz at all three levels. The English Bible Quiz is based on The New American Bible, Revised Edition (NABRE) whereas the Malayalam Quiz is based on the POC Malayalam Bible.
Note: The Malayalam Quiz option is only available to the adult group.
The details for the registration will be provided in the coming weeks.
5. Our 10 year Church Consecration Anniversary Celebration
Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath will be celebrating Holy Qurbana at our parish on Sunday, December 12th as a celebration for the 10th year anniversary of our church consecration. The couples who are celebrating 25, 40 and 50 years of wedding anniversaries will also be recognized on this day. The names of the couples are published in the Narthex. If there are any corrections needed for the names, please contact James achan.

During this Covid-19 pandemic, there will be an additional Holy Qurbana on Sundays at 7:00 am.

8:30 am and 10:30 am Holy Qurbanas will be live streamed.
Note: Those attending Holy Qurbana are required to follow social distancing guidelines, wear masks and sanitize their hands inside the church.
7. Church Bookings
For church bookings, non-parishioners will be able to book the church 12 months in advance of their event date based on availability. Parishioners on the other hand will be able to book any time prior to their event based on availability.
8. Address Change
If your address has changed, please contact your ward Representatives/Secretary/Trustees/Parish Vicar via text message or email to change the address in the church database.

9. Annex Building for our Chicago Syro Malabar Diocese
As we communicated earlier, the Chicago diocese is planning to construct a new annex building adjacent to the current bishop’s house in Chicago. This will be used by our Seminarians. During this period of difficulty, please provide your support if you can.

10. Year of St. Joseph from Dec. 8th, 2020 - Dec. 8th, 2021
Pope Francis announced a special year dedicated to St. Joseph starting from December 8, 2020 until December 8, 2021, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of St. Joseph as the Patron of the Universal Church, as well as the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady.
